Unfortunately, Colorado Industrial Recycling does not accept appliances with refrigerants. Air conditioners, refrigerators, and freezers contain refrigerant gases known collectively as freon. If mismanaged, freon can cause harm to the environment. Given the potential for harm, it is important that consumers are educated about how best to manage their unwanted appliances.

However, each day we see businesses throw away money through the mismanagement of their steel, copper, brass, aluminum, and other scrap metal. These mistakes can result from either inattention or over-engineering of their recycling programs. Thankfully, there are several simple things any business can do to maximize the value of the scrap metal they generate.

The recycling industry has gone through a lot of turmoil in the last few years. Between environmental scandals, bankruptcies, service cuts, and price volatility, the industry is in a state of upheaval. Although challenging for recyclers and consumers alike, the current state of affairs could provide the catalyst needed to reform the industry so it is healthier and more sustainable going forward.
