Residential: Prohibited Items and Recycling Resources
The services provided by Colorado Industrial Recycling have been designed to focus exclusively on the things we do well. Unfortunately, we do not have the expertise to recycle every type of material.
Prohibited Items:
- Single stream recyclables (paper, plastic, and glass)
- Wood and other aggregates
- Waste tires (if not still on a scrapped vehicle)
- Hazardous Waste
- Anything emitting radiation
- Liquids of any kind
- Compressed gas (unless the cylinder has been de-valved)
- Anything containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)
- Mercury containing lightbulbs
- Televisions and monitors
- Computer peripherals
- Plastics
- Paint
- Alkaline, Lithium polymer, lithium ion, Ni-Cad, or Ni-Mh Batteries
- All explosives
- Stolen material**
** When receiving material that we suspect may have been stolen, we will reject it unless we can verify it is coming from a legitimate source.
For more information about what we can and cannot accept, please consult our Authorized and Unauthorized Materials Policy (link to pdfs).
There are companies that specialize in recycling many of our prohibited items. For residents and businesses in the Pikes Peak area, the El Paso County Recycling Directory (link to: https://assets-communityservices.elpasoco.com/wp-content/uploads/RD-2021.pdf) is a great resource to find recycling providers.
